Company Establishment and Development:

Historically, SEA goes back to June 1984 when Steve Spencer established Select Engineering (Redditch) Ltd. From the beginnings of a small company producing precision turned parts, Select Engineering became a highly respected manufacturer of quality precision engineered products, supplying leading companies in automotive, aerospace and construction industries.

As customer demand grew to supply a much wider range of products, Steve developed a new and revolutionary business model to meet these expectations and from this SEA was established in April 2001.

Following years of researching South East Asian manufacturers, SEA is able to offer not only high-quality machined parts, but also castings, forgings, pressings, sintered parts, extrusions, plastic mouldings and complete assemblies. We offer our customers the opportunity to purchase from a British supplier with assured quality and reliability and with a heritage going back many years.

The SEA Unique Selling Point - Our Business Advantage:

SEA works together with many manufacturing companies in South East Asia, combining the skills of the manufacturer with the technical know-how of our experienced technicians and quality personnel.

Areas of the factory from our chosen manufacturer are set aside for the sole production of SEA products and SEA’s machinery and equipment. All operatives involved in production for SEA are trained to deliver the high-quality standards that our company demands. SEA’s technicians remain in contact with the manufacturer carrying out comprehensive training programmes and providing advice and back-up support.

As a Lloyds UKAS ISO9001 approved company, SEA ensures that all products are made in accordance with its strict quality standards and working procedures. SEA’s production supervisors and quality control inspectors remain on site throughout the production period from receipt of raw materials to final packaging and dispatch.

Should it be necessary for the manufacturer to employ the services of subcontractors in relation to plating or hardening, our quality inspectors will carry out audits prior to parts being processed. Further inspection and testing will then be carried out on finished parts to ensure they conform to drawing specifications.

Raw Material Purchasing Options:

All materials can be supplied in accordance with drawing specifications and the majority of customers prefer to take full advantage of using direct equivalent materials as this substantially reduces costs.

British (BS), German (DIN), American (ASTM), Japanese (JIS / JSA) and other specifications of materials are all available. Direct equivalent materials are commonly available and SEA test all materials to ensure they conform to the required specification. Certification can be supplied from world-leading and UKAS approved laboratories including material analysis, mechanical properties, hardness, yield and tensile.

Manufacturing, Quality Control and Supply Chain Management:

SEA has an efficient operations facility based in China which is run by SEA’s Co-Director Ms Ophylia Zhao. All manufacturers together with technicians, on-site supervisors and quality inspectors remain in daily contact so that any queries are dealt with in real-time.

SEA’s UK engineers and technicians are always available to travel to manufacturers and work closely with both the manufacturer and our Chinese staff to establish optimum efficiency, reliability and quality.

Our China operations facility has direct contact with customers to aid processing new enquiries, order progressing, stock-control and advising delivery data. In addition to this we have a competent R&D department with 3D CAD facility to help customers in the development of new products.

Our quality department has the latest in measuring equipment including computerised shadowgraphs to CMMs. We have our own in-house testing equipment (for assemblies), salt-spray testing equipment, ultraviolet light testing equipment and material hardness testing equipment, providing customers with confidence that their products have been tested to the highest standards.

The Complete Supply Chain Solution:

SEA’s logistic department has over 20 years’ experience in shipping and air freighting to destinations worldwide. All UK deliveries are delivered direct to the customer. Our staff control deliveries from manufacturer to port of embarkment and through to port of destination and all shipments are carefully tracked and monitored. Upon arrival at the port of destination, we clear Customs duty formalities, port handling fees and VAT prior to arranging inland transport to final destination.

SEA’s specialised logistics service removes any customer concerns when importing to The UK and alleviates the necessity for employing skilled import managers.

Warehousing, Storage and Distribution:

SEA offers warehouse storage and distribution from our Redditch based facility, enabling customers to purchase 3 monthly, 6 monthly or their annual volumes for call-off as and when required. Our warehouse facility provides customers with the option of storing their goods until required, therefore alleviating storage at their own premises where storage space may be at a premium. This enables customers to purchase larger volumes at a more competitive price.

Our warehouse opening hours are from 8.00am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday. We offer next-day delivery in relation to orders and stock call-offs if notification provided by 3.00pm.
